How we doing Hartford County!? Today is October 14th aka National Dessert Day - the one holiday you don’t have to fake enthusiasm for. This is the day when calorie counts take a backseat, and “just one bite” turns into a full-blown cheesecake disappearance. Whether you’re the type to chase molten lava cakes like they’re stock tips, or you’ve got a secret Pop-Tart stash in your desk drawer, this is your excuse to sugar up guilt-free. Pro tip: tell people you’re “celebrating a national holiday” while you demolish that brownie sundae. It sounds patriotic, not unhinged.

HART CO NAMESAKE🤔
Ever wonder where our town names actually came from? Same here - I started poking around one day and ended up deep in a history wormhole. So for the next few weeks, we’re breaking down Hartford County A–Z, tracing how each town got its name. Quick, fun, and way more interesting than your average history class.
Avon: Incorporated in 1830 from Farmington; the name was taken from the Avon River in England (Northington parish had used “Avon” as early as the 1750s).
Berlin: Incorporated in 1785 from parts of Farmington, Middletown, and Wethersfield; named for Berlin (Prussia/Germany), replacing the earlier parish name “Kensington.”
Bloomfield: Incorporated in 1835 from Windsor; formerly Wintonbury, the town was “named from a Hartford family.”
Bristol: In 1785, the parish of New Cambridge was incorporated as Bristol, named for Bristol, England.
Burlington: Set off from Bristol and incorporated in 1806; tradition holds the name honors the 3rd Earl of Burlington (as with Burlington, VT).
Canton: Incorporated in 1806 from Simsbury; the name was suggested by Ephraim Mills and derived from the Swiss “cantons” (divisions), reflecting the town’s being set off.
East Granby: Incorporated in 1858 from Granby and Windsor Locks; organized earlier as the Turkey Hills society and incorporated as the Town of East Granby.
East Hartford: Part of Hartford until 1783, when residents on the east bank incorporated a separate town; the name simply marks its location east of Hartford.
East Windsor: Incorporated in 1768 from Windsor; the name reflects its position east of the parent town.
Stay tuned in for more next week!

BUZZWORTHY ACTIVITY🐝
If fall threw itself a 50th birthday party, it’d look like Glastonbury’s 50th Apple Harvest & Music Festival. Three crisp days (Oct 17-19) of “50 bands, 4 stages, zero filler” wrapped around a full midway and food-truck gauntlet at Riverfront Park (300 Welles St). Grab a Megapass, ride until the cider tastes like victory, then park it for live sets that run all weekend while you graze through cider, donuts, and guitar solos. It’s the biggest music lineup they’ve ever done, and yes, the town’s official listing has the hour-by-hour: Fri 5-10pm, Sat 10am-10pm, Sun 11am-5pm.

NEW OPENING
🌯 Chipotle officially opened at (1073 Farmington Ave, Berlin) complete with a dining room, patio, and a slick new Chipotlane drive-thru for mobile pickups.
