How we doing Hartford County!? Today is Tuesday, Sept 30th and National Love People Day - aka the one day a year where being nice has a 10x ROI. Treat it like social compound interest: send a “thinking of you” text to that coworker who survived your Slack typos, buy the next person’s coffee, tell your barber they’re basically Michelangelo with clippers. Tiny kindnesses = ridiculous upside: better relationships, unexpected intros, and karma that sneaks back like a coupon code at checkout. Go hug a human, tip like a hedge fund, and watch the universe quietly pick up your tab later.

HARTFORD COUNTY: ROAST & TOAST

I asked ChatGPT to roast every town in Hartford County because nothing bonds us like a little shared trash talk. Think of it as hometown pride… with a side of friendly fire.

Avon - Route 44: where errands go to become a day trip.”

Berlin - The Turnpike decides your mood; we just adapt.”

Bloomfield - Jazz on the green proves we age like a fine Cab.”

Bristol - ESPN made us sports; Lake Compounce made us lines.”

Burlington - If your car isn’t dusty, did you even go outside?”

Canton -Farmington River = summer camp for grown-ups.”

East Granby - Sunsets hit different when planes drift by.”

East Hartford - River views, bridge decisions - same debate every weekend.”

East Windsor - Route 5: yard sales, car lots, and your willpower.”

Enfield - Half our plans start with “after a quick run to the border” (hi, MA).”

Farmington - Lunch near UConn Health = parking as a contact sport.”

Glastonbury - Every stroller has four-wheel drive.”

Granby - Horses have better hair than we do.”

Hartford - Parking = choose-your-own adventure.”

Hartland - Neighbors are a rumor and a mile marker.”

Manchester - Buckland Hills: cardio disguised as shopping.”

Marlborough - Dinners planned around the Route 2 exit strategy.”

New Britain - Little Poland calories don’t count (peer-review pending).”

Newington - Everyone has a shortcut; none are faster.”

Plainville - Route 72 exists to test friendships.”

Rocky Hill - Dinosaur State Park: the OG local influencer.”

Simsbury - Heublein Tower selfies = LinkedIn headshots.”

Southington -One run at Mount Southington and we call it cross-training.”

South Windsor - Everyone owns one more throw pillow than they admit.”

West Hartford - Brunch is a sport with latte side quests.”

Wethersfield - Old Wethersfield: colonial charm meets stroller traffic.”

Windsor - “Day Hill Road is our unofficial food court.”

Windsor Locks - Yes, we sleep through jet noise - it’s our white-noise playlist.”

HART CO TRIVIA🤔

BUZZWORTHY ACTIVITY🐝

South Windsor Apple Fest at John J. Mitchell Fairgrounds (75 Brookfield St) is the Super Bowl of fall carbs: 100+ vendors, signature apple pie & cider, craft beer and cocktails, plus the Savage Brothers throwing down 2-5pm while you debate “second dessert.” Bring the kids for free activities, bounce houses, and meet-and-greet with Mazolu Animal Sanctuary; spring for pony rides (10am-1pm, $5), the inflatable obstacle course ($5), and train rides ($5).

The food lineup is a flex - Cousins Maine Lobster, Connecticut Valley Brewing, Fifth State Distillery, Wayne’s Wings, Dude’s Donuts, Hartford Baking Co., and a whole apple-themed rogues’ gallery (cupcakes, mead, teas, you name it). Free parking, free admission, and leashed pups welcome. Just toss a non-perishable in the bag for the South Windsor Food Bank and call it your good deed of the day.

NEW OPENINGS

📅 Oct 3rd - The Mary Fields Horse & Heritage Museum opens its doors (11AM-3PM) in Hartford with a grand opening packed with history, heritage, and hype.

BUZZ & TELL

🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Tony; a 4-year-old, 59-lb Catahoula-Leopard mix who’s as smart and sweet as they come. He’s fully vetted, good with kids and other dogs, and just waiting for a home that can match his big heart.

🏡House of the week: West Hartford gem; a stately 5-bed, 4-bath Tudor dripping in original woodwork, leaded-glass windows, and in the prestigious West Hill historic district. From its sunken living room with fireplace to its spa-like third-floor suite, this one reads like a timeless storybook with modern luxe touches. Have a look!

🥾Trail of the week: Antolini Woods, New Hartford, CT
Just off Steele Road, park in the small lot near Antolini Elementary and hop on the blue-blazed loop that meanders ~2.3 miles through woods, fields, and gentle ridgelines. With ~380 ft elevation gain, it’s rated moderate, offering a quiet escape and scenic views without hogging your whole day.

🔭Sky report: The Harvest Moon is clocking in Monday (10/6) night like a glowing timecard in the sky: big, bright, and hanging low over Hartford just after sunset. Snap it peeking over the trees or the skyline and you’ll look like Ansel Adams with an iPhone. Nature’s best free spotlight, no ring light required.
