How we doing Hartford County!? Today is Tuesday, December 30th and National Bacon Day, aka the one holiday nobody has to pretend they “don’t really eat that much bacon.” It’s your permission slip to go all out today, starting at breakfast: extra crispy, thick-cut, candied, wrapped around something that absolutely didn’t ask for it. If you need a plan, here it is: bacon for breakfast, bacon on a burger for lunch, and at dinner you dramatically announce you’re “keeping it light” while sprinkling bacon bits on your salad like confetti. Celebrate responsibly, which in this case means having napkins within reach and zero shame.

DINNER CLUB
Our next Connecticut Buzz Dinner Club is headed to Manchester and it’s already shaping up to be one of those nights where you walk in solo and leave with five new “we should totally do this again” people.

Dinner is Thursday, January 15th at 6pm in Manchester. Here’s how it works (super simple, mildly magical):
✦︎ Take a quick quiz about your interests, food prefs, and the kind of people you actually want to meet (no forced small talk vibes).
✦︎ Get matched with five other CT Buzz folks based on your answers.
✦︎ Get your invite the morning of the dinner with the restaurant reveal in Manchester.
✦︎ Show up at 6pm and let the night do its thing. After dinner, we’ll have an optional “keep it rolling” spot nearby for anyone who wants a second round of laughs (or just can’t go home yet).
The Logistics: It’s $16 per seat to cover the matching, planning, reservations, and reminders. You’ll pay for your own meal at the end of dinner. I’ll handle everything behind the scenes. Your only job is to show up and be a decent human.
If you’ve been meaning to meet more locals, make new friends, or just get out of the house on a Wednesday night with zero awkward planning, this is your sign.

BUZZ CHECK-IN
Alright HartCo Buzz crew, quick favor to close out the year: can you take one minute to fill out our 9-question end-of-year survey?
Your feedback tells me what to double down on, what to cut, and how to make HartCo Buzz even better in 2026. Appreciate you helping steer the ship.

CONNECTICUT’S FIRST TREE
Last week’s trivia question was a little flex for Hartford, because on Christmas Eve 1912 the city hosted one of the country’s early public Christmas tree celebrations in Bushnell Park, with the tree lit at 5:00 pm and an estimated 500 people showing up to watch the park glow under hundreds of electric lights reflecting off the snow.
And if you really want to zoom out, Connecticut also has a “first Christmas tree” claim: the New England Historical Society says a captured Hessian soldier named Hendrick Roddemore put up a Christmas tree in Windsor Locks in 1777 while living in a small cabin on what’s now the Noden-Reed Farm, and that he kept the tradition going for years, with a stone marker on the spot today.

BUZZWORTHY ACTIVITY🐝
First Night Hartford on December 31st from 2PM-Midnight is downtown Hartford’s way of saying “we’re doing New Year’s together” and then actually pulling it off in epic fashion: Union Station is the HQ (Open 2-10PM) for all the button logistics and the quick “where are we going next?” regrouping, and those all-access buttons get you into the indoor afternoon and evening programming at dozens of venues hosing family friendly activities. Bushnell Park turns into the main stage with live music, food trucks, and the People’s Parade rolling in before the 6PM family fireworks, plus a midnight fireworks finale to close it out. Bonus: there’s free ice skating and even free carousel rides, which is a rare combo of wholesome and fun that doesn’t require a reservation link or a 9-step checkout flow. Grab Passes

NEW OPENINGS
🍚 Poke Bros is officially open in Southington at 748 Queen St in the ShopRite Plaza, serving up build-your-own Hawaiian poke bowls daily 11am-9pm (aka deconstructed sushi, but make it lunch).
