What’s up Hartford County!? Today is Tuesday September 16th as well as Mayflower Day. This isn’t just about a boat full of seasick pilgrims, it’s basically the OG startup launch story. Imagine packing up your entire life, raising a round of “faith capital,” and setting sail with no Wi-Fi, no DoorDash, and a 50/50 shot of making it through winter. On November 21, 1620, the Mayflower Compact became their scrappy terms of service: a few lines scribbled to keep everyone from mutinying before the first frostbite set in. Fast forward 400+ years, and we celebrate it like a national onboarding session, chaos, vision, and a whole lot of grit baked into America’s DNA.

BUZZ & TELL
🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Brynne, a 10-month brindle Boxer mix (~50 lbs) who does zoomies, kid hugs, and pup playdates like a pro. Spayed, house-trained, and ready to roll in East Hartford - go scoop your new bestie.
🏡House of the week: New Britain flex: 1888 Queen Anne with paired porches, coffered ceilings, pocket doors, and three fireplaces, 2,773 sq ft just steps from Walnut Hill Park. This 4 bed/3 bath on a half-acre with a 2022 boiler and early-2000s systems refresh; seller will even leave it furnished. Check it out!
🥾Trail of the week: Ethel Walker Woods - Town Forest Loop (Simsbury)
Piney, pondy, peaceful: start at Town Forest Park (86 Town Forest Rd) and stitch a mellow ~2.4-4 mi loop on easy bridle paths - perfect coffee walk with the dog. Trails are lightly blazed, and expect a few wet spots after rain; dogs leashed.
🔭Sky report: Saturn’s main event, the biggest, brightest of 2025.
Up at sunset, peaking near midnight in the SE; even a basic scope pops the (nearly edge-on) rings.

BUZZ BULLETIN
Put your news where neighbors actually look.
The Buzz Bulletin is your megaphone to thousands of locals.

CT HorrorFest: Hartford’s about to get spooky, and I’m not talking about late-night walks past the gold dome. CT HorrorFest is crashing into the Convention Center (100 Columbus Blvd) Sept 20-21, and it’s basically Comic-Con’s darker, creepier cousin. Think: celebrity sightings (yes, John Cusack and Chris Sarandon are rolling in), autograph tables, photo ops that’ll make your Instagram followers jealous, and a vendor floor stacked with everything from rare horror merch to that life-size Chucky doll you probably don’t need but definitely want. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill haunted hayride. It’s two straight days of full-throttle horror culture. Saturday runs 10-7, Sunday 11-5, so you can binge scares like it’s Netflix in October.
Frank’s Place opens in East Granby tomorrow at 16 South Main (old Blue Goose/Kane’s). The menu is stacked with house-smoked brisket, pastrami, pulled pork, turkey, smash burgers, and wings for days. Lunch/dinner + weekend brunch, takeout/delivery/grab-and-go plus Frankie’s Food Truck on the move.
Westfarms just landed a three-store refresh: gorjana on level two in MAC’s old spot near Macy’s, Jamba on level one replacing Surf City Squeeze, and Kilim Design on the first floor in the former Forever 21 by Macy’s.
